MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE:
- As the Family Support Coordinator you will be part of our holistic approach of working together, linking in with our Therapeutic Pastoral Lead and the Senior Leadership Team at Compass Community School Mountfields Park.
- To provide pastoral support via targeted interventions to identified pupils and their families, removing barriers to attendance, engagement and learning.
- To be a designated safeguarding lead for the school; promoting and facilitating effective safeguarding in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education and Working Together To Effectively Safeguard Children framework. This will involve liaison and collaboration with relevant stakeholders where appropriate, implementing a multi-agency approach to assessment and healing of complex trauma and prevention of harm to children and young people.
- To work with initiative and develop therapeutic and pastoral skills as part of the wider education/therapeutic group.
- To assess, monitor, report upon and support the overall holistic progress of students and families – specifically linked to attendance, engagement and behaviour.
- Ensure that safeguarding is paramount and safeguarding policies are adhered to.
- To support the development of the Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development elements of the Independent School Standards and the Ofsted Inspection framework and support the Headteacher/DSL in the quality assurance of elements of the school provision linked to these areas.
- A strong link between home and school – leading on devising, coordinating and implementing action plans that remove barriers and/or risk factors for families and young people prior to or as part of Early Help.
- To contribute and work towards the annual School Improvement Plan and School Evaluation Form, specifically linked to Behaviour and Attitudes and Safeguarding.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example.
- To monitor and support the Behaviour and Attitudes and effective safeguarding of students, through daily/weekly/half termly analysis of data and records (specifically the B4L points system, registers and CPOMS) and implementation of identified actions to support improvements.
- To share leadership and development of behaviour for learning (including attendance) and demonstrate and disseminate best practice. Specifically, coordination and implementation of individualised interventions for pupils and their families that identify barriers to high attendance and good behaviour and remove these barriers through tailored impactful support via a multi-agency approach.
- To work in collaboration with all people involved in the children’s lives and strive to ensure that they engage and attend school regularly.This involves liaising with professionals such as parents/carers, teachers, care staff, foster carers, social workers, family members and therapeutic pastoral leads.
- When working with children, to have a deep understanding of the presentations of the forms of abuse, and the impact this has on a child’s behaviour and capacity for attending and engaging positively with their education.
- To proactively lead on Child Focus CPD for staff in collaboration with the Therapeutic Pastoral Lead – specifically in relation to solution focused practice linked to effective safeguarding, support for families, behaviour and attendance of pupils.
- To plan, implement and evaluate impact of 1:1 mentoring for identified pupils as directed by the Headteacher/DSL to remove/reduce barriers to attendance, engagement and learning.
- To strategically manage and lead on family engagement at Compass Community School Mountfields Park, including analysis of data and subsequent action planning/delivery of interventions linked to attendance, safeguarding and Early Help initiatives. This will include home visits for identified families as directed by the Headteacher/DSL.
- To be a key point of contact for families, signposting to and facilitating engagement with key external and internal agencies that can support in removing barriers/risk factors for pupils and their families.
- To build strong relationships with key stakeholders within the Compass Community and the local community to draw upon the most appropriate services, expertise and skills in order to improve outcomes for Mountfields Park families.
- To monitor CPOMs daily as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead and ensure that appropriate actions are taken swiftly by internal and external colleagues where appropriate in order to facilitate and support best practice in respect of attendance, behaviour and safeguarding.
- To be reflective in your own practice and areas for continued professional development.
- To be involved in Team Around the Child Meetings (TAC) in which there will be opportunity for case discussions and working together to ensure effective support for pupils and their families.
- Maintain a commitment to anti-discriminatory ideology.
- Attendance of weekly training/CPD as directed by Headteacher/DSL.
- Attendance to and engagement with DSL forums in the Compass Community and Local Authorities.
- To actively promote student progress through aiding the removal of barriers to attending school and engaging positively with their education.
- To implement school policies and procedures.
- To work with colleagues to formulate individual learning plans (ILP’s) for students which have coherence and relevance to their particular needs.
- To contribute to internal and statutory reports as required
- To work within the provisions of the Data Protection Act, observing strict confidentiality in relation to all aspects of work undertaken.
- The post holder will be expected to competently use electronic systems effectively.
- To comply with Equal Opportunities Policy and Procedure in all employment practices and all other policies within the employee handbook.
- The nature of the education service means that tasks and responsibilities are sometimes unpredictable. Staff are therefore expected to work flexibly when the occasion arises.
- To represent the school at multiagency meetings and be an advocate and agent for change for the child within the child’s professional network.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION & ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Minimum two years’ experience of working with children with SEMH needs and complex trauma.
- Academic qualifications Level 2/3 (including English and Maths at Level 2).
- Designated Safeguarding Lead Level 3 certificate, or willingness to complete this prior to role commencing.
- The ability to influence good practice within a team.
- Ability to work within a professional multiagency environment
- Strong understanding of effective safeguarding and the impacts of abuse/ACEs on learning and development.
- Learning Mentor qualification or equivalent is desirable (Certificate in Mentoring, The Certificate in National Learning Mentor Training etc)
- Active, energetic, creative, outgoing and empathic character.
- Good communicator and fluent English speaking
- Experience of leading on 1:1 pastoral intervention with pupils
- Experience of assessment and analysis of intervention
- Evidence of strong literacy and numeracy skills
- Understanding responsibilities in protecting their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of their colleagues and others.
- Full Driving Licence with business insurance.
- Experience of leading on attendance in an educational environment is desirable
