Compass Fostering is looking to grow and develop it its Foster Panel’s centralised pool of talent. We are looking to recruit Panel Chairs to attend our regular virtual full day panel meetings.
Compass Fostering’s Foster Panel makes evidence-based recommendations about applicants’ suitability to be approved, and to be re-approved as foster carers. Its Panels also provide consistent, independent oversight reflective of Compass’s vision, ethics and values of the recruitment, assessment and review of foster carers.
Compass Fostering is looking to widen its pool of talent, skills and backgrounds. For that reason applications are actively sought and encouraged from the widest range of backgrounds, including with recent or current experience in children’s social care, health, children’s safeguarding and work with children in care or care experienced. All candidates should have previous experience of foster panels, chairing formal meetings and chairing Foster Panel.
Those from Global Majority backgrounds are currently underrepresented in our central pool of talent. We are growing the strengths of our Foster Panels. All Panel Chairs will be expected and supported to work to Compass Fostering’s quality practice standards, and Fostering Regulations & National Minimum Standards.
Good listening and communication skills are essential along with the ability to make an assessment based on the written and oral information presented to the panel in a balanced and informed manner. Most importantly is the ability to work to Compass Panel’s Practice Standards & expectations, to support the timely and quality professional activities of panel, to chair and run panels to high professional standards and to ensure that all quality standards are met along with confident, professional recommendation formation. Candidates must have a good knowledge of Fostering National Minimum Standards as well as to work closely with Compass’ Panel Assessment Managers who advise panel. Applicants must also be confident, and well practised with online / virtual panels and be able to manage the dynamics of virtual panels deftly and with professional communication & presentation standards.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all employees and independent Panel Chairs to share this commitment and vision.
Compass Fostering’s Panels are virtual, and full day. We are growing our ways of working. Whilst the role is virtual in nature, the role applies to the regulatory jurisdiction of fostering within England only. Any registration with any professional regulatory body needs to meet standards required for England.
Compass Fostering’s remuneration framework is under review and this can be discussed with interested applicants.
The role is independent in its arrangement, and subject to a full range of compliance checks as well as induction and regular performance review, alongside attendance and participation in required training.
