About The Role

Compass Community exists to create a future of strength and opportunity for every child. Across fostering, residential care and education, we use a therapeutic, innovative approach that puts children first. Our mission is to be the UK’s #1 children’s services provider – reaching more children, being the best place to work in children’s services, and helping to transform the sector for good.

Our values, Integrity, Courage and Care guide how people work here. We listen properly, challenge each other well, and get on with fixing what needs to be fixed, together. When something goes wrong, we deal with it. When something goes well, we celebrate it. That's the work of Life Changers, and we look forward to welcoming you to the team.

About the Role

As a Performance & Development Trainer, you'll play a key role in designing and delivering engaging learning experiences that equip foster carers and employees with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people.

You'll deliver training both face-to-face and virtually, create and maintain high-quality learning materials, and champion a culture of continuous learning throughout our fostering services.

This is a varied and rewarding role that will see you working with colleagues and carers across the South Region, helping to ensure our training remains innovative, relevant and aligned with regulatory requirements and best practice.

  • Design, review and update learning materials to ensure content remains current, relevant and impactful.
  • Promote a strong learning culture across Compass Community.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and demonstrate the impact of learning initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with fostering teams, operational managers and learning colleagues to identify and address development needs.
  • Support organisational projects and initiatives that drive continuous improvement.
  • Travel nationally to deliver training and attend meetings, workshops and events.
  • Ensure all learning activity aligns with safeguarding, regulatory and organisational requirements.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for an enthusiastic trainer who can engage diverse audiences and inspire learners through high-quality facilitation and coaching.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of Fostering Regulations, National Minimum Standards and Ofsted frameworks.
  • Understanding of training requirements within fostering and social care environments.
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation and communication skills.
  • Strong written communication and report-writing ability.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel nationally, including occasional overnight stays.
  • A satisfactory DBS check (or willingness to obtain one through our recruitment process).

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience designing and delivering training within fostering, children's services or social care.
  • Coaching and reflective practice skills.
  • Experience creating digital learning content, such as e-learning modules, videos or SCORM packages.
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion principles in learning design and delivery.
  • Knowledge of Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP).
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and therapeutic approaches.

What You'll Bring

You'll be someone who:

  • Builds positive relationships and influences others through credibility and expertise.
  • Is passionate about learning and development.
  • Can adapt your approach to suit different audiences and learning styles.
  • Demonstrates excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Remains resilient and professional when managing competing priorities.
  • Has a genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
