About The Role

The Role

To drive growth and continual improvement we are recruiting for three new and exciting roles as a dual-purpose Financial Controller / Business partners to lead of our divisional finance teams and support our front-line services. 
 
Compass is dedicated to making a positive and life-long difference to the lives of the vulnerable children we care for in our fostering, residential care or school settings.  As a member of our finance function, your mission is to use your technical expertise to support our operational teams.  Although you won’t be working hands on with the children in our care, the work you do each day absolutely benefits them.  

Based in Syston, this is a hybrid role, with 4 days in the office.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage the transactional finance team and divisional management accountant
  • Lead monthly reporting, including full P&L, balance sheet and variance analysis
  • Own and manage the month-end close process, including balance sheet reconciliations and MI packs with commentary
  • Deliver robust financial challenge and support to senior management through business partnering
  • Work closely with the FP&A Manager to produce accurate monthly forecasts
  • Review and approve customer and supplier invoices, oversee accounts payable and receivable
  • Support the collections process and ensure strong financial controls are maintained
  • Lead divisional-specific reporting tasks, including children’s savings and foster carer pay
  • Prepare and present financial reports and performance insights to senior stakeholders
  • Drive continuous process improvement and optimisation of finance systems
  • Support year-end audits, acquisition integrations, and other strategic initiatives

Essential:

  • ACA / CIMA / ACCA qualified with 2+ years’ experience post-qualification
  • Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting standards
  • Experience in business partnering and end-to-end P&L ownership
  • Motivational leadership style with a track record of developing high-performing teams
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to communicate financial information clearly
  • Confident presenting to senior management and influencing decision-making
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; experienced in financial systems (e.g. Sage Intacct)
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Comfortable challenging current processes and implementing improvements
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work cross-functionally
