Compass Community is on an ambitious journey to create and deliver an innovative, inclusive and research-informed curriculum that truly meets the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), from Reception through to Post-16.

We are seeking an exceptional National Maths Consultant to work alongside our Assistant Director of Curriculum and Assessment, leading Maths curriculum design and implementation across our schools nationally. This is a non class-based role, focused on strategic leadership, curriculum development, and improving practice at scale, while still modelling outstanding teaching within school settings.

The Role

As National Maths Consultant, you will:

  • Lead the design, development and implementation of the Compass Maths curriculum across all schools
  • Support the Assistant Director of Curriculum and Assessment to develop the wider Compass Curriculum, embedding Compass values and current educational research
  • Model excellent, inclusive classroom practice across schools (without holding responsibility for a permanent class)
  • Support teaching teams through observation feedback, coaching and mentoring
  • Lead new initiatives to enhance Maths teaching and learning
  • Contribute to cross-curricular learning opportunities, including STEM/STEAM activity planning and delivery
  • Provide strategic oversight of pupil progress and attainment in Maths, leading data dialogue meetings
  • Lead quality assurance in Maths, including data analysis, lesson observations, planning and work scrutiny

People and Leadership

  • Support consistency and high expectations in Maths teaching across Compass schools
  • Lead and deliver subject-specific CPD and training
  • Support procurement of high-quality Maths resources
  • Mentor staff, including those undertaking teacher training programmes, to promote collaboration and continuous improvement

Growth and Strategic Planning

  • Support both new and existing schools to implement and adapt the Maths curriculum for a range of cohorts
  • Use performance data and research to inform long-term curriculum planning

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Postgraduate qualification in Education, SEND or Leadership (desirable)

Experience

  • Experience of curriculum and assessment leadership, ideally in SEND or specialist settings
  • Demonstrated excellence in classroom teaching
  • Experience delivering CPD, training or coaching within education
