About The Role

Are you a Speech and Language Therapist looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people?

Compass Community Schools is looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our Education Team and help shape and develop Speech and Language Therapy provision across our schools.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your clinical expertise beyond individual interventions. Working alongside our Senior Speech and Language Therapist, SENDCos, Speech and Language Therapy Champions, Occupational Therapists and wider school teams, you will help create communication-supportive, participation-focused and trauma-informed environments where every learner has the opportunity to communicate, connect, participate and develop their independence.

Your impact

You will help schools develop a culture where communication, interaction and participation are everyone's responsibility.

As a trusted source of Speech and Language Therapy expertise, you will use observation, consultation, coaching, modelling and training to help colleagues recognise and reduce communication barriers to learning and participation. You will provide practical advice around communication-supportive environments, visual supports, communication systems, AAC and other strategies, always with a focus on what will make a meaningful difference to learners' everyday experiences.

You will also support the development of our Speech and Language Therapy Champions, helping to build sustainable communication knowledge and practice across our schools.

The role provides an opportunity to contribute to the wider development of Speech and Language Therapy across Compass Community Schools, giving you the chance to influence practice beyond your own setting.

Working collaboratively

You will work closely with SENDCos, school leaders, teachers, teaching assistants, therapists and external professionals to ensure communication needs are understood and appropriately supported.

You will contribute to learner reviews, planning meetings and multidisciplinary discussions, helping schools identify the right level of universal, targeted or specialist support.

You will also work alongside families to understand learners' strengths, needs and priorities and, where appropriate, support consistency between home and school.

About you

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist who is passionate about enabling children and young people to communicate, participate, belong and thrive.

You will be:

  • HCPC registered and a member of RCSLT.
  • Experienced in working with children and young people with SEND and complex needs.
  • Confident managing a caseload and working independently.
  • Confident working as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experienced in providing consultation, advice and training to education or care teams.
  • Able to translate clinical expertise into practical strategies that staff can confidently use.
  • Passionate about communication-accessible, neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed practice.
  • Comfortable coaching and supporting others to develop their practice.

Experience in specialist education, residential care, multidisciplinary teams, AAC, social communication or wider communication-supportive approaches would be welcomed.

Our values

Our values of Courage, Integrity and Care are at the heart of how we work.

Courage – We advocate confidently for children and young people's communication needs, challenge barriers to inclusion and have the courage to explore new approaches.

Integrity – We maintain high professional standards, take responsibility for our decisions and provide honest, respectful and constructive advice.

Care – We build trusting relationships and create emotionally safe, communication-supportive environments where every learner is valued and supported to achieve their potential.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to be part of an education team where Speech and Language Therapy is valued as an integral part of supporting children and young people to succeed.

You will have the opportunity to influence whole-school practice, develop others, shape communication provision and make a lasting difference to learners' everyday experiences.

If you are ready to use your expertise to make a difference at both an individual and whole-school level, we would love to hear from you.

Please see the attached job description for full details of the role and responsibilities.

Travel across Compass Community Schools is an expected requirement of this position.
